san francisco startups hiring now

Here are some notes from my recent job hunt and list of startups in SF hiring rn

Hi there,

First off I want to say thanks for signing up for employbl. Since my wife and I launched the service for candidates in April 2024 over 1,000 people have signed up for the platform!

Today I want to share some startups in San Francisco that are hiring now. This has been relevant for me because recently I’ve been interviewing to work at startups in San Francisco. I was especially excited to work with Next.js and AI. Fortunately I found a match at Octave building a central messaging hub for sales teams using AI. I start next month!

Here are some things I’ve noticed over the course of my most recent job hunt…

1) Very early stage startups do not do Leetcode style questions, whereas after Series B companies it seems like that’s all they do.

2) Some early stage startups ask candidates to code Tick Tack Toe in React and others do take home exercises. It’s my experience that the most innovative companies fully expect candidates to be using AI for their software development in take home exercises, so familiarity with using LLMs for software development is crucial.

3) Many recruiters are using a platform called Paraform to pair with companies. Startups post their jobs on Paraform then independent recruiters recruit for them to collect the bounty. It’s kind of like an Uber for recruiters, which might not bode well for labor standards or recruiting as a profession, especially given that many recruiters recruiting on Paraform live outside the United States. It does seem to work well for companies as there’s a lot of usage. One downside for candidates though is that many recruiters might be recruiting for the same roles. Be wary of spending too much of your time talking to third party recruiters. Get the details of the company and opportunity up front!

4) I ultimately landed my job after responding to a LinkedIn post a CEO put out. It pays to not rely too heavily on recruiters. Put yourself out there!

All that said, here are some startups headquartered in San Francisco that are hiring now:

P.S.

There’s currently a bug with the password reset functionality. A fix should be out soon but if you forgot your employbl password let me know and I will reset it manually 🙂

P.S.S

Don’t judge me on the AI generated image and how grainy it is. I don’t have access to 4o Image Generation yet..
